MAKASSAR -INFOCHANELNASIONAL.COM--- The Regent of Wajo, Amran Mahmud, appeared as a speaker in the panel discussion of the opening series of the Makassar Bugis Merchants Meeting (PSBM) which took place at the Claro Hotel, Jalan AP Pettarani, Makassar City, Saturday (14/5/2022) .He described the potentials of Bumi Lamaddukelleng.
Given the large number of presenters at the event held by the Central Executive Board (BPP) of South Sulawesi Family Harmony (KKSS) in collaboration with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin) of South Sulawesi and the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of South Sulawesi, Amran Mahmud had the opportunity to speak for five minutes.
"I thank you for the opportunity given. Although only 30 minutes ago I knew that I was given the opportunity to explain Wajo's potential in front of Bugis Makassar merchants. I will maximize this opportunity," said Amran Mahmud opening his presentation.
Amran Mahmud continued that the Wajo Regency Government (Pemkab) will provide a "red carpet" for entrepreneurs to join in, either investing directly in Wajo or building existing networks.
"Wajo Regency has quite complete potential, including having a long sea or coastline with a length of about 103 kilometers with seaweed production of around 500 thousand tons. Also for agricultural land with an area of about 101 thousand hectares which has produced nearly 800 thousand tons of rice per year. In fact, the consumption of the Wajo people is only around 50 thousand tons, so there is still a lot that can be sent to other regions," explained the regional head with a doctoral degree.
The next potential, continued Amran Mahmud, is Lake Tempe with an area of about 16,000 hectares which also has the potential for tourism development."If investors can help develop the tourism potential of Lake Tempe with all the potential for fisheries and agriculture, this could be better than Volendam in the Netherlands and have competitiveness," said Amran Mahmud who is also the chairman of the Wajo Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association (ICMI).
Amran Mahmud hopes that through PSBM it can be a record to help the economic development of Wajo, which is also known as a commercial city.
"No less important is that Wajo Regency is the only area in South Sulawesi that has natural gas potential. We have natural gas reserves of around two trillion standard cubic feet. Currently, Energy Equity Epic Sengkang uses only about 6.5 million standard cubic feet. So there is still a lot that we can take advantage of this natural gas potential," he said.
Amran Mahmud also hopes that Wajo can build a food industry and become a network of Bugis Makassar merchants."We are ready to synergize with KKSS," he said.
Amran closed his presentation by conveying the potential of Wajo's literature which was assigned by the South Sulawesi Provincial Government to restore its glory.
"I think at this time a lot of business potential can be developed in it. Moreover, we present an integrated agricultural program and produce 10,000 entrepreneurs. When this is collaborated with our Bugis Makassar merchants, God willing, we will realize the welfare of the community," he concluded.(Adv)
