Woodside is facing disruption at its Pluto LNG plant after a late-night incident forced the entire site to be evacuated.A Woodside spokesperson confirmed workers were “mustered” about 11.30pm on Friday night after planned maintenance at its flare tower went awry.“At approximately 11.30pm on Friday an audible release occurred in the Pluto flare tower,” the spokeswoman said.“Personnel on site were mustered. All personnel have been accounted for and we are investigating the cause of the incident.”The CFMEU claims the issue was the “release” of gas at the Pluto KGP interconnector, the 3.2km long and 76cm diameter pipeline which connects the Pluto LNG plant with the North West Shelf Project’s Karratha Gas Plant.The union said employees were undertaking work at the interconnector on Friday night when the incident occurred.
It’s understood the plant is set to re-open on Sunday and CFMEU organisers will attend the site to conduct an inspection.Woodside is required to notify the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety of any reportable incident.Flare stacks are used to burn off waste or unwanted gases at industrial plants and are held to stringent safety regulations, including scheduled maintenance and inspections.
IMO this is just CFMEU action against Woodside.
