MIPIM 2009: Amey looks for 70,000 sq ft hub in Birmingham

Support services company Amey is on the hunt for a 70,000 sq ft international design hub in Birmingham.

The firm made the announcement at the Birmingham stand at MIPIM, in Cannes.

Chris Webster, chief operating officer of Amey, said: ‘This announcement demonstrates Amey’s commitment to the development and prosperity of Birmingham, both as a major employer, and through the creation of the 500 new jobs.’

Amey currently employs around 1,400 people across the Midlands, including 700 in Birmingham.

It wants to set up the design hub to consolidate its consultancy team and 250 designers, as well as employing a further 500 design engineers.

Mike Whitby, leader of Birmingham City Council, said: ‘Birmingham is a powerhouse of professional services and Amey’s decision to locate such an important part of its business here is testimony to the city’s reputation in the global business community.’
