Rehabilition may not be for a while as in December 2022 the mining lease was extended to 2031.
Also there has been discussion about the possibility of leaving certain infrastructure in place as Koolan would make a great tourist spot. The fishing at Koolan is exceptionally good and very popular with a high percentage of boat owners on the island.
