I'd say he's just patient.
I have a mate who bought 18k of a stock in 2010 at 1.8c
It went nowhere. Never sold.
In the last few months his holding value has moved to 160k.
That share is now waiting on a massive Ann. Expected over the next month. That 160k will immediately triple.
Worth the wait I reckon.
