I agree with Kaya about his call on the red light district in Amsterdam.
After living in Germany (Koln) most of last year I have a few close friends from Amsterdam who have good local knowledge about how the place works due to political and religious influence.
In regards to the Church they say it's a serious entity in itself controling plenty property and business around Holland including the red light areas. You may notice that over the years Amsterdam is slowy chaging into a more conservative town. Soon it will be just like any other European city.
