What they mean is that you might get an extra 8km a day from the solar panels.
you've got say 4m2 of solar area, at 1000w/m2 and 20% efficiency you get say 0.8kWh/h so say 5 hours of direct overhead sunshine per day, and you get 4kWh, of which the cooling uses 40% and you've 2.4kWh, which at say 240Wh/km gives you 10km best case in summer. But they do look cool.
