SFM's Watsons Well Vanadium Project at Vanadium District

I was making a deep research about the vanadium projects all around the world for some time then surprisingly SFM has announced a vanadium project.

I should say that I have found the sampling grades of SFM's Watsons Well project very interestingly high grades in compare to other projects which is peak rock chip assay returned 1.64% Vanadium Pentoxide (V2O5). And the 5km strike length is quite good.

The company said today "..following the completion of drilling at Challa North, SFM will resume mapping and sampling at the Watson’s Well Vanadium prospect. Results of the upcoming mapping program will be analysed to determine the next phase, being either ground based geophysics or drilling". That means SFM might start drilling for vanadium at Watsons Well sooner than expected.

I believe vanadium will be the next big thing after lithium because the usage of renewable energy is increasing rapidly and that energy needs to be stored in very large battery units. That is only possible with very large Vanadium Flow Batteries. We are are at the start of this revolution.

While I was making my research I have realised that most of the vanadium project are in Australia and more than half them was located in the same area where is close to Perth, between Mount magnet and Sandstone. Other than this the largest vanadium resources are located in Bushveld Igneous Complex of South Africa.

The geology of the area was very interesting. There are a few igneous complexes of Meeline Suite of mafic-ultramafic layered intrusions. They are;

• Windurmurra Igneous Complex,
• Narndee Igneous Complex,
• Youanmi Igneous Complex,
• Lady Alma Igneous Complex,
• Atley Igneous Complex,
• Barrambie Igneous Complex.

The Windimurra Intrusion has been of great interest to mineral exploration companies for decades, as it is one of the thickest and largest ultramafic intrusions in the world, though it has been fragmented and mostly removed by shearing unlike the Bushveld Igneous Complex of South Africa.
