In my experience, because they want to get 38c instead of 10c or 20c or 0 cents
but then again there are buyers so someone has an opposite view but these guys are usually
specialist in this game, they buy a lot of distress debt, some return them 2-3 times the money
Some pay nothing at all so it risks management and risk-reward scenario.
As an investor it best you figure out what in it for you going forward vs write it off against other gains and move forward or stay the course
Tough decision sometimes but if you in the market that the decision you will likely to make more than a few times in your investment journey.
I have to do it twice in my investment lifetime so far but each time I tried to learn from it and move on and put in check and bound so that in the next 10-15 years, I make zero of these mistakes.
