The opening is set up by who wants to buy and sell at a given price. If there is no match up then there are no transactions. If there are no transactions through the whole day the OHLC is recorded as the close of the previous day as it was the last transaction.
My reference to the ASX was in reply to LNC-Link.
Why do you think the SGX was modelled on the US exchanges? I would have thought it more likely to be similar to the UK if anything.
