Lets look at some Basic Maths. And terms like Corrosponding period etc.

Comments made in the report, " there is an extra weekend in this years Pre Christmas period,"

"But we dont know what that means in terms of sales, because we dont know anything about retail "

Summerise above- An extra weekend in this years pre Christmas sales period most likely means one less weekend in the Corrsponding period being reported on. Now one less weekend in a Qtr or a Half could easily equate to 2% loss in sales on its own.

The extra weekend in this years pre Christmas sales could possibly add 20% to this years Pre Christmas sales.

I assume you all understand the basic maths involved in my above assumptions, 2% is SFA. It could be that there was one less weekend in the Period dates that the report is based on.

So this could be the big shake out before the next report saying something like OH WE HAD NO IDEA THAT THE EXTRA WEEKEND OF PRE-CHRISTMAS SALES WOULD IMPACT THE SALES FIGURES.

How were we to know that ?? Its not like we manage a Billion dollar Retail outlet or anything. I mean how were we to know ??

So First step is to shock the market with a totally negative report that the sky is falling.

Then follow it up later with a report that we know will have 20% more Christmas sales because of the extra weekend pre Christmas.
