----------------------------------------------------------- Williams pays $501 million for shale gas acreage 25th May 2010
Private equity firm Denham Capital has sold its 42,000-acre stake in the Marcellus shale.
The company announced Tuesday that it was selling its Marcellus stake to Williams Cos. for $501 million. The acreage holds an estimated 1.2 trillion cubic feet equivalent in natural gas potential, Denham said.
For Williams, the purchase nearly doubles its assets in the increasingly attractive Marcellus, which spans the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S. Companies from around the world are setting up shop in the region, which contains enough gas to meet the United States' considerable energy needs for the next century.
