A consolidation will DECREASE liquidity, yes the minimum spread is potentially tighter but there are less shares to go around. Companies do this when they have a shitload of shares on issue to allow the price to move a bit more freely. NDO has over 1bil shares on issue, so a definite candidate. FMG did the opposite a while back..ie. 10 for 1 split.. .this is to increase liquidity as stock was getting a bit scarce around the $70 mark.
