India Foreign national commits suicide in Pondy Puducherry | Thursday, Sep 13 2012 IST
A foreign national allegedly committed suicide in a hotel here yesterday. According to police, Maxwell (61), hailing from Sidney in Australia, used to visit Puducherry frequently since 1996. He was looking after the educational expenses of 20 economically weak students. He checked in here on August 29 and was scheduled to leave Puducherry yesterday. But when he did not open his door for a long time and did not respond to his visitors, the hotel authorities opened the room with a duplicate key and found find him lying on his bed dead. A bottle of poison and three letters addressed to Deputy High Commissioner of Australia in Chennai, Puducherry Police and Manager of the hotel were found on the bed.
Police seized the letters and handed them over to the Sub-Collector. His relatives in Australia were informed of the incident. The body was removed to Government General Hospital here for post-mortem. The post-morem would be conducted only after arrival of his relatives. It was suspected that Maxwell had taken the extreme step following heavy loss in share market.
