The problem with that approach, unless you're a gambler, is that you need to generate cash to build that nest egg, and it gets built over a long period of time (that's the only proven way to generate sustained wealth anyway), so you need that 9-to-5.
The best you can hope for is to shave a certain number of years off your retirement. You'll be very lucky if you're out by 50.
