Jimmy, my brokerage is real low because I trade so frequently. I pay 0.07% above $50k and a flat rate below of $17.00. That will change upwards in a few weeks as I am changing back to by preferred broker and they are marginally more expensive on large trades but a lot more expensive on small ones. I have to change because the service downtime of the primary broker is so bad that I have had enough. I cannot/shouldn't say who they are but if you read the press you can figure it out.
You can short with just about any broker but I short with CFD's. I used to use Comsec for that but recently changed after MFGlobal went bust. I was lucky to be in cash at the time as someone was telling me prior to Xmas that their shorts are still open on their MFG accounts and the liquidator will not let them close.
