OK. The guy who has to make the final decision is the Labor Government Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation, Kyam Maher, who is also:

    1. Minister for Employment
    2. Minister for Manufacturing and Innovation
    3. Minister for Automotive Transformation
    4. Minister for Science and Information Economy

He is young and became a Minister in 2015. Is he pro Employment? Is he pro Development? Glancing at his porftfolio, you would think that he will make a considered decision on the merit of drilling at Lake Torrens. No doubt, being part-aboriginal, he will also need to take into account the Aboriginal heritage argument.

From a political perspective, however, there is a March State election in SA this year. The minority Labor Government has been governing with the help of a couple of independents these past 4 years. This election will go to the wire! It will be a brave government to veto drilling at Lake Torrens and give the Liberals a free ride to further discredit the Labor Government's pro-business credentials. SA is fast becoming a basket case with one of the highest unemployent rates in Australia (Holden closed last year, Coca Cola announced a move to QLD and billionaire developer, the Makris Group shut shop in disgust and headed to QLD).

While Kyam Maher will be making the announcement, I believe it will be a decision guided by the imperatives of the current State Labor Government!
