I can confirm one thing for you as I live in Beijing.
Whilst there are ATMs around they have nowhere near the penetration that we would be used to in Australia or New Zealand.
What I haven't seen is any in venues. Not sure if that is a regulatory issue or not.You would never know here. There is that many levels or bureaucracy and obscure rules and regs (read corruption).
If you can crack it in any business the potential is huge but it is extremely hard yards on the way through.
