NPV is important.
Hey man, i always take discount rate into account but also play with different ratio for senity check. The reason being is that;s how everyone price for further works/ revenue/ earnings against depreciation. and it is important to work out different options.. the other reason is that it is difficult to only rely on the engineered figures from the company, just the reality .
If take into account the discount rate then no need to double count the infration rate again bcuz ppl normally take bigger number for discount rate anyways.
And agree with you that there are always assumptions there, no matter how good you run your cals...
