I've seen a lot of people on WSB telling stories about the effects of the 2008 financial crisis – for which Wall Street's greed was directly responsible, and after which Obama chose to bail out the banks rather than prosecute the bankers and help those affected – on their parents (losing houses, pushed into poverty, etc.). There is a lot of raw hatred towards Wall St. and people see this as a chance to strike back. I was thinking of buying 1 share in GameStop and never selling, just as a show of support, but Commsec now has a 3 week waiting period for approval of an international trading account, although I think the bottleneck is the approval of the US tax forms one has to fill out in the process. Wouldn't surprise me if they are slow walking approvals due to the GameStop situation but I'm not sure.
