Another huge point that hasn't been mentioned is that because our fortunes are so closely enmeshed with decisions of the state, and the primary function of a state is to enhance the power and status of its insiders, our more mysterious SP rises and falls are usually pretty reliable precursors to favourable/unfavourable developments for us within the DOE.
