I am not assuming anything. Please point out where I did. I am telling you that a number of large (and other) holders on HC have said they would be happy with $50 (see seanc above). If they are representative of the whole, it may well get over the line. I'd be gutted personally. I don't feel like I am greedy (as sean alludes to) - I just feel no need to give most of the financial benefit to BP after supporting the company for nearly a decade and a half.
$40 would make a reasonable starting point for negotiation if that was your aim. Isn't this what you yourself were suggesting with the whole $10/$20 story?
