There definitely was mate, but from memory, the discussion centred around why NEU alone was ill-equipped to handle such an undertaking. Too small, not enough staff, funding, etc etc. BP may have the firepower and resources to do so however, especially if the prize is a world first treatment for ASD. 1 in every few hundred people? Thats an unspeakably large TM. The mind boggles.

I would add however as someone who works with children with ASD and their families, that a large portion of them would be repelled at the very idea of a 'cure' or even treatment ASD. There is a growing movement looking upon the condition not as a disability, but something else. Not for me to try and elaborate there, but of course other families would be desperate for some help with a condition that can be highly debilitating. Numbers of diagnosed ASD people does not equal number of people seeking treatment is my only (rambling) point.
