Given the majority of greens electorates are inner city, and comprising mostly well educated, intelligent, and wealthy people, I think 'unwashed' is a right wing denigration for green/left voters that doesn't stand up to proper scrutiny. Same with 'loony'. It might help your understanding and reduce your ire if you think about why rich educated people might consider policies such as the greens where tax would seem to be inevitably higher, as a good thing.
Not sure political debate adds much to the Neuren discussion though either.
