Well, what doesn't make any sense is that whilst you correctly point out that ASIC reported an 840k increase in overall NEU shorts on 14 May, ASX's daily report for 14 May showed only 64k new shorts for the day. So clearly something is awry with reporting to either or both ASIC & ASX.
Such discrepancies are not uncommon & there is a chance that the ASIC spike might reverse tomorrow if in fact there was a reporting or processing error.
