"gaps in the chart that need to be filled"
"need" ? - there has never ever been a gap that "needed" to be filled.
Traders fill the gaps because they have become a self fulfilling prophesy.
There is no mathematical reasoning behind gap filling.
Shares go up, shares go down and in doing so pass through "gaps". Psychology and trading does the rest. Cause and effect, confounding variables - etc, etc.
Just my opinion.
