IMO all these people talking about dividends in the same breath as takeovers need to consider the reality here.
Paying a dividend will mean Neuren become "ex-div" - and anyone in the market knows the SP usually depreciates after a divident payment.
So, the obvious question is - why on earth would a company pay a dividend if strategically they have said a takeover/buyout would either be considered or possible? Why on earth would they reduce their MC in such a scenario?
IMO its EITHER:
1) Pay a dividend and hold out long(er) term for a buyout proposal (think closer to P3 results, minimum this time 2024); or
2) No dividend to maximise the MC and get the best deal, with a view to make a decision/accept an offer first half of 2024 (IMO).
For me its a no-brainer - and a big NO to the dividend.
