I guess - in most takeover situations you can take script in the purchasing comany and/or purchase shares in the purchasing company.
Sorry @giarc63 there is no option to just take shares in the acquiring company. Deals can be all cash (the majority of cases), very rarely all script and occasionally mixed cash and script. In the case of an all cash offer I cant imagine or recall any circumstances where you would be able to elect to take shares instead.
