the biggest concern for me with a takeover is that I'd end up having to pay a big chunk of it in capital gains tax - to the government which has done nothing to deserve it, and which would be largely wasted. I'd much prefer to sell down a bit each year to minimise the amount of capital gains tax I have to pay. I could supplement my retirement income each year without being pushed up into the highest tax bracket by one big lump sum payout.
