lol - maybe you didn't fully read or understand my comment in a post above. My intention was to sell down small parcels to supplement my retirement income without the capital gains pushing me into the highest tax bracket in which I would lose almost half the discounted capital gains to CGT. A takeover prevents that strategy to reduce the amount of CGT I'd have to pay. All the capital gains would come in one tax year. I'm intending to hang on to these shares for as long as I possibly can, and even look forward to eventually getting fully franked dividends with the franking credits that go with them. I am currently retired on a self funded pension so my marginal tax bracket at the moment is 0. So selling a few shares or all of them makes a huge difference to which tax rate I get CGT levied at.
