Fundies will often get criticised for not picking particular winners, just like the get praised for picking the winners. Many of these fund managers will often advertise particular investments in their reports, it's not all about the over all average return. I know for a fact that I will be questioning fund managers I'm invested with whether or not they had the good sense to invest in NEU, and unless they have a good reason for not investing in it (eg doesn't satisfy their investment criteria etc) then I will seriously be considering whether or not I remain invested with them if they failed to pick this gem...
