Most SPP work on the condition that you must have an interest in the company. Meaning, as long as you have just 1 share in the company you are classed in the companies eyes as you have an interest.
On the other hand(from what I've found I could be wrong) if you only hold options in the company you are seen as not having an interest in the company, which means you can not participate in a SPP.
