I seem to remember someone (not Stephan Mayne) that had an investment strategy that relied on share issues and held only a few shares in each company to be eligible. It involved something like hundreds(?) of companies. The results (profits) were up and down if I recall and was inconclusive.
A bit complicated if you ask me, and lots of letters in the mail each month.
