The system is on the T+3 settlement. So you take the day it closes minus 3 days. And this is the last day you can buy to be entitled.
In regards to minimum parcels. The ASX has rules, called the business rules, that govern how the market works. One of these rules is that a "marketable parcel" or the minimum amount of shares you can initially buy in any company is $500. After you have purchased this minimum of $500 you can purchase any amount.
That is why all broking firms have a minimum $500 order parcel that you see. Most times when you sign up, you agree to this in the "terms and conditions" section of your account opening form.
