It's like this rifici...say you have shares in a business which is listed on the ASX and you need capital.
Your bank says go away, i'm not lending your business any money regardless of how good your product might be.
So you look to your shareholders to contribute to their survival by investing in your company as the end result could be rewarding.
So although the SP is cheaper to buy in the market than the SPP it won't help your company any if you do that as the company gets no funds.
So to help in their survival you participate in the SPP.

It's simple rifici, i hope it sinks in.

As bridge baron says you get a refund if most of us think like you do..........get it mate? i hope so.
