A significant difference between WBC and QBE is the premium the sp was trading above the SPP. QBE was trading in the $25 range which was as high as 25% above the $20.50 spp,
As you rightly pointed out, WBC closed at $16.11 on Friday which will translate to less than 1% gain for someone selling at $16,11 & buying back in the SPP.
The strategy will only works for sp at a small premium. The higher the premium the higher the risks of an oversubscription and thus a scale back like in QBE.
