Not sure whether investors have a grasp of how large the sleep apnoea devices market is and its potential. PR Newswire recently quoted a forecast of $12.6 Billion by 2025.
The issue with CPAP machines (continuous positive airway pressure) is that it they have a high abandonment rate given they are reported as being obtrusive, uncomfortable, noisy and often disruptive to the partners sleep. I can relate to this through personal experience.
From a study on patient long term compliance with CPAP:
Many people have a negative reaction to the machines.... The big whoosh of air in your throat. The restrictive mask on your face. It can be a lot to adjust to. Studies suggest that from one-third to more than 50% of patients either stop using their CPAP machine or never bother to fill their prescription. They quit for a variety of reasons, but mostly because the device can be cumbersome and uncomfortable. Sometimes, they quit because of confusing or stringent health insurance restrictions.
Given the global market for those who are not using CPAP machines but really should; plus those are are reluctantly using them as they "must", a health solution here would be IMO, a level of significance comparable to Cochlear. A pill versus CPAP - no contest.
With the positive clinical experience already under the belt, the probability for success for an IHL bodes very well, especially under the stewardship of Dr Sud and the Board. Exciting times coming up.
