Moosey, don't take my comments too seriously. It was a little joke with that example, but as for them not playing with CGT, I wouldn't count on them honouring the 50% CGT discount for assets held for more than 12 months. I believe that is already under review by the current govt.
If they think they can get away with changing it they will. Spending promises win them more votes than the votes they lose through introducing new taxes on "the rich". Remember that the people they call "rich" don't vote for them generally anyway and you don't have to actually be rich to be arbitarily labeled as such.
Got to keep those handout promises rolling if they are to maintain power. Money has to come from somewhere and their spin doctors have figured out that removing tax deductions like CGT discounts can be sold as "removing welfare to the rich" rather than as a new tax which is really what it is.
