Gentlemen,
please do not start picking on a person because of age.
If you want a prime example of a female high flyer at a young age, here is an example.
Top marks with a B Com from university -taken on as a token woman in an all male old school three partner local accountancy firm.
Offered a FULL partnership at no cost once she became a chartered accountant, which would have provided significant income.
Said NO-wanted a bit of O.E. as she was bored.
Before that occured, the partners suggested she talk to a local corporate restructurer for a bit more of a challenge.
Worked for him or 3 years before leaving for Sydney for the start of her O.E.
Saw the same sort of job advertised.
Enquired and was told you must be joking at your age, wouldn't consider anyone under 40 having enough experience, until she mentioned her prior employer and that she had survived working for him for 3 years.
After a couple of years in Sydney, headed for L.A.-working in the same sort of business.
At the time Chrysler was due for many billion dollars of Govt funding in a bailout and she as a dare applied for one of the vacancies of the funding oversight group, after she turned the job down(didn't like the thought of being in Detroit for 1 day a week/1 week a month? )which a fair amount of pressure was applied to her to take the job which she finally did.
Last I heard she was a happy housewife after marrying her husband in New York having spent what could have bought a couple of houses back home on a wedding dress and then came home with her house husband and kids some 10yrs plus ago.
DYOR +DYODD Not saying anyone is of the same calibre of course or nepotism doesn't exist.
My current boss is 28,in the job years ahead of his time and deservedly so in his circumstances and been there already 4yrs and being groomed for greater things,I hope he realizes. He can make hard men with 40yrs experience stop listen and do, without argument. If the company didn't quickly accommodate his natural potential, someone else would have benefited. His next upward step is potentially in charge of an even larger operation/division overseas.

You're right fitnfam, we shouldn't generalize but it is obvious Arrium's punt on youth in this case was a failure, then again the 70 year old former Chairman was a catastrophic failure.
