"Jefferies noted the price was expected to be volatile in the near-term and rise to $2.75/lb in 2018 and $3/lb in 2019 from the current $2.87/lb. The bank, however, added its forecasts were conservative and an extended period at $4/lb or above in the next five years was not out of the question.
The copper supply deficit was expected to grow to 136,000t in 2018 and up to an estimated 629,000t in 2020 due to relatively strong Chinese demand driven by growth in gross domestic product and an increase in the use of electric vehicles, which use three times more copper than other vehicles."
