Thanks for your post as it has added a bit more light to the situation.
Have also been looking at the Shandong story and that is not half a frustrating exercise (lot of mistranslations when you can cross reference things).
Also picked up on the annual payment of "bonuses" bit and from what I can see shareholders get paid this bonus in additional shares in the company that appear to be tradeable as ordinary shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange - don't quote me on this as it is early days in this bit of research (seems to me the same sort of system with some modifications as used by Australian Co-operatives years ago).
Think that "cheaper than to buy gold on market" statement is either a misquote, or bad translation - fairly certain I read elsewhere (from memory off a Bloomburg thread) it was Shandong's intentions to grow by international acquisitions because it was cheaper than to buy/acquire gold mines on the local market.
Back to the research.
