"Shareroots Silicon Valley based cofounder Noah Abelson has no intention of changing the name of his platform that enables companies to use social media content posted by the great unwashed. "It's a name that no-one forgets," he argues. "When we listed investors didn't understand the business", he admits. "It was a case of 'I'm in tech because tech is hot'" Abelson reckons the register churn is beneficial because the new investors understand that a cloud based model should focus on subscription growth rather than revenue. So far Shareroot has signed up 20 paying clients, accounting for 45 brands, to its platform, which enables them to appropriate user-generated content for their marketing campaigns. For example, Costco (a client) might be interested in an image posted by an Instagram user in one of its retail barns. Costco obtains permission to use the picture of the cheery shopper who signs away the right for no more than an ego boost, or pride at being linked to an admired brand. About 70% of the time the individual will participate. Currently Shareroot's subs are heavily discounted, but Abelson expects the rate to settle around $200 per month for a small entity and up to $20,000 for a big consumer name. Spec Buy."
