Whilst I understand it would be great for Amazon, I feel there may be some barriers to that by way of resistance from current partners and Amazon's direct competitors not wanting Amazon to effectively control the technology.
Additionally, I can't see the major shareholders (& we tiddly winks) thinking they will get maximum return from a takeover. This plan is going to take a long while to realise its full potential. Not just getting into the market, but riding the wave of retail reform. The greater the number of partners they have the better the market share and security. If they can embed themselves in all this tech and don't get greedy, it wouldn't be worth any company taking them over other than to monopolise their technology. That is other than to monopolise their tech to mess with other competitors and provide a point of distinction.
SBW financial model would be to take a very small portion of an enormous number of transactions, and remain an innocuous as possible. Get the money and avoid the attention. Velcro would be the best example I can think of - invent something unique, make it inexpensive for manufacturers to use & get in into as many situations as possible (the manufacturers will do this) and take a little bit of every usage. Gad it's even on pet food bags to make them easy to reseal !!
As always just my thoughts. DYOR
