Yes, a free carry is (or was) quite normal in these sorts of deals, even up to 15 or 20%.
Perhaps the GFC, or more likely a lack of remaining big oil has caused the big boys to tighten their belts. Perhaps the Tindalo situation has also contributed as Buzzly suggests, and many others speculated on previously.
NDO and KIK have retained far more interest than I expected.
