In the updated resource estimate released on 11 Sept 2006, Cortona mentions the following:
"A key finding of the work is that 92% of the resource (i.e.; 280,000t of the 304,000t) constitutes ‘oxide’ material. A further 15,000t is within ’transitional’ material and only 8,000t constitutes fresh rock. This is particularly relevant given the demand that such ‘oxide’ or weathered ore carries in the region."
Given the high oxide content, Cortona are in a favourable position with their negotiations with nearby producers.
