Could be going into Manila for:
1. Bunkering - i.e. fuel.
2. Victualling - i.e. food
3. Crew change - In the last ten years or so the Philippines has come to really dominate in the provision of ships' crews. So even though MBA Liberty is registered in Italy [which is quite unusual] chances are the majority of her crew call the Philippines home. With Covid, some crews have been stuck on ships for up to two years. It ain't no party cruise, it's hard work.
I guess we'll know that she's been carrying out up to three of the above in a few days time, if she comes out of Manila Bay heading towards WA again.
If MBA Liberty does come to Koolan, her GWT is 80,000 so she'll load a few thousand tonnes of iron ore less than most Panamax ships. About 78,000, for anyone keeping score..
