Part of the problem is there are 10 ships for the past 3days sitting outside hanging on the pick. Geraldton harbour cannot safely allow ships to be berthed when there is a high tide and / or some swell. With this redesigned harbour when such conditions exist like every time we have a full moon ALL ships are sent out of the harbour to wait until conditions change. There is a demurrage cost payable to GPA while waiting outside ??? $30000 / day. Other conditions which can restrict loading are if winds exceed 20 kmh Southerly or 15kmh Easterly loading is to cease . The problem here is that forever from Nov --- April the easterly in the morning far exceeds 30 kmh followed by the afternoon southerly daily exceeding 50kmh. Therefore the port is not available 24/7 possibly 75% with additional demurrage costs
