    "I think you get what you pay for".
    From our experience, my mother was for two years in upper end nursing home + 2000 euro month. She didn't like it over there, food was average and she was surrounded by misery of dementia.. Her problem is... brain is still sharp as ever.
    Plus location was hard to get to for visitors.
    Last year I moved her to "budget' one, about 500 euro. + it cost me to do refurbishment of her apartment (as I mentioned on other forum, I done it myself really on cheap)..
    She is now close to friends, food is better and those on the last leg are on different floors.
    Her social nurse, collecting prescription, going to Aldi to buy specials ( last week buying for her underwear,) vegetables, fruit at market... all free of charge.
    PS:
    No assets test, no rip off taking over houses...
