I suspect that the modeling was done based on previous roads that were built and of similar nature. I honestly think that they didn't take into account that Springvale Road and Stud Road (which run parralel to Eastlink) will remain the choice of travel routes for most drivers (for free). Also, I don't think that they took into acount the negative traffic reports every morning suggesting that the Eastern is bumper to bumper further out from the city than it has ever been because of the increased traffic as a result of the feed Eastlink has provided. Don't get me wrong, I think its a great road and I use it myself. I'm happy to pay the toll but alot of others obviously arn't prepared to pay when they can use public roads for free. I also think that the coming Summer will prove to be good for Eastlink because of the holiday makers going to the beach etc..
