So yesterday 7,269,337 new shorts were opened. 5% of the daily volume is still fairly small, and not enough really to manipulate the market from my experience. A figure like 20% can do that.
Its also unknown as to how many of these new shorts were closed on the day. We wait four days for that data to be available from the ASIC link. Just like on 23rd August where they opened nearly 2m but closed more than that on the day.
Updated aggregate data from ASIC comes later today. I will repost this when it does.
